Bras

Bra sizing can definitely be difficult even for the ladies, but if you don’t have breasts then the process is simplified. Bra sizing works in a system of band size and cup size, but if you don’t have breasts then you only need to determine your band size by measuring the circumference of your chest. There are many charts online to help you work out what your circumference equates to as a band size. You should also be aware that different brands may vary their size charts massively, so consult each brand’s size chart before making any purchases. Your cup size represents the difference between your band size and bust size. If you are choosing to use breastforms, you should measure them and find out the circumference of your chest over them. If you aren’t using breastforms, you can choose your cup size. A longline bra is perfect as there is very little movement and the full cups will secure any breast enhancements used.

Panties

You can buy ladies panties in a wide variety of styles, such as thongs, full knickers or briefs. It is important to remember that the majority of women’s styles are designed to accommodate slightly larger hips and thighs and aren’t designed to accommodate for male genitals. The best option for cross-dressers is generally something with a little stretch and more coverage to prevent them from slipping off your hips and to contain your genitals comfortably.

When purchasing women’s underwear, you may have to be particularly selective about which styles will work for you as a cross-dresser, or you can choose to buy specialty underwear that is designed with you in mind.

You can get stockings that are clipped to a suspender belt to hold them up or, a simpler version, hold up stockings which do not require any clipping or fastening, but are held up with silicon bands. Normally you only need your height and rough weight to ensure you are purchasing the right size stockings, and most styles come in S, M, L or even XL. Some can be ‘one size fits all’ (which is fine if you are of ‘average’ height and build), but you may find they often don’t some up high enough and will ‘tug’ on a suspender belt. This you want to avoid, especially if you have slim hips.

Stockings are perfect for giving you a sexy, feminine feeling, and they can be as neutral and pared back or as bold and courageous as you want! Stockings are most certainly a necessary addition to your wardrobe for any occasion.

These pieces are beautifully decorative and the foundation of any lingerie set. Suspenders are great in a practical sense, as they hold up your stockings, but they also create a stunning silhouette and allow your feminine features to truly shine.

Most good suspender belts have 6 straps, but you can also get ones with 4, 8, 10 and even 12 straps for maximum hold. Whilst you can purchase suspender belts with plastic clips, metal clips are better because they are much stronger and allow for a firmer grip, meaning you don’t have to worry about constantly readjusting your stockings.

It is also advisable to go for one that sits firmly on the waist (rather than the skimpy ‘fashion’ belts) as these will stay in place and not slide down once stockings are attached. Choosing the right size is extremely important to avoid movement and slipping. Items of crossdressers lingerie such as a suspender belt should always be bought by waist measurement, not S,M,L etc. These sizes can differ greatly between manufacturers so a Small from one shop or supplier may be a couple of inches smaller or larger than a Small from another. How to Wear Stockings and Suspenders for Men

Here’s a simple guide on how to wear stockings and garter belts (suspender belts) for men and sizing basics:

 

Choose the Right Fit & Style:

• Before you start looking, accurately measure your waist
• Choose a belt with hook/eye size settings & adjustable straps
• Deep sides and/or a wide waistband will ensure comfort and a secure fit
• Consider the amount of straps  you want.   A minimum of 6 straps are advised belts for a firmer  hold — more straps mean less slipping
• Choose a style with metal clips, plastic ones do not have the same solid grip
• A wide suspender belt, panty-girdle or girdle with garters will help men achieve a more feminine shape if that is what you are looking to achieve. 
• If you’re new to wearing this type of lingerie, wear it around the house first to make sure you are  comfortable.
• Find a style that feels right for you, the first one you try may not be suitable but don’t give up — whether masculine, feminine, or fluid.

How to Put your Suspender Belt on with Stockings:

• Put the garter belt on first and secure around your waist so it’s tight enough to prevent being pulled down once stockings are attached

• Before putting on, roll the stockings down to the toe (best done whilst wearing hosiery gloves), then slide over your foot.   Gently roll them them up your legs one at a time.
• Attach the garters to the welt (the wide strip/band at the top) of the stockings — attaching the front clips first, then back.  You may find it easier to sit or put one leg up on a chair when attaching the back clips.
• Adjust the length on all the straps so your stockings stay up without pulling or sagging.
• Try walking around & sitting down to make sure everything is perfect before putting on your outer garments or leaving the house.
• Now you’re all set to go!

This is completely up to the individual, and while it’s considered more “feminine” by society to be shaved and plucked from head to toe, it is NOT necessary. Crossdressers (and women!) can definitely still be feminine with a beard or with body hair!

Long hair or hair accessorizing is also a common symbol of femininity, and this can be achieved by either growing out your hair or wearing a wig. While there are certainly tons of wig varieties, a synthetic wig is often the most affordable, styleable, and versatile type. Crossdressing in history has long been recorded throughout the world. Whether it had to do with survival or self-expression, there are many examples of why both women and men crossdress from all round the world and in every era.

Where did the term transvestite come from?

In 1910 Magnus Hirschfeld coined the term transvestite. While the practice of dressing as the opposite sex was not new, Hirschfeld believed that clothing was only a representation of the outer world of a person, but not who someone felt they were on the inside. Hirschfeld helped many people back in the 1910s to change their names legally and even performed the first sexual reassignment surgery.

Crossdressing laws in UK history

Criminal law was passed in 1885 in the UK that made all homosexual behaviour illegal and punishable by law. It wasn’t just the UK that put these laws into place. They were also found throughout Europe at this time. During this time, people who were suspected of being homosexual and convicted could face time in prison, alongside hard labour for two years. People who cross-dressed were easy targets since the assumption was that they must be homosexual if they enjoy wearing the clothing of the opposite gender.

The first public trial for cross-dressing was for Ernest Boulton, aka Stella, and Fred Park, aka Fanny. They were both arrested in 1870 for cross-dressing and classified as commiting indecent behaviour. The charges were based on how they dressed as women and solicited men dressed as women. Thankfully no conviction was reached, and they were acquitted.

Crossdressing in history around the world

There have been many historical figures that have cross-dressed for various reasons. Some women dressed as men so they could go to war, whereas some men dressed as women so they could avoid going to war.

A woman dressed as a man to join a monastery. She concealed her identity until she died in 508, and she was known as Marina the Monk.

Scandinavia

In Norse mythology, Loki and Thor were two of the first cross-dressers known to man. The story wasn’t recorded until the 11^th century CE, but the story had been told throughout the Icelandic people for hundreds, possibly thousands of years before that.

It is said that Thor dressed as Freyja, the Norse Goddess of love, in a wedding gown, and Loki dressed as his handmaiden to return his hammer from the Giants that had stolen it and used blackmail against Thor and Loki—wanting only to return Thor’s hammer for a bride, Freyja.

China

The movie Mulan made by Disney wasn’t an idea a writer at the company thought up. It was based on a poem written about Hua Mulan; the poem is called “The Ballad of Mulan,” and it is about a young girl dressing as a man to serve in the army in place of her elderly father.

England

In England, during the Elizabethan era, Shakespeare’s plays were only allowed to have men actors, even for the women’s roles. Making it common for men to dress as women to play these parts. This didn’t sit well with women, and some women would dress as men, dressed as women to be part of a play.

Shakespeare has thirty-eight plays, and seven of them featured cross-dressed characters.

Afghanistan

It is not uncommon for families to dress their little girls to appear as little boys. This is called bacha posh because boys are given so many more opportunities than girls, and male children in the family define a family’s status. As they hit puberty, some children will start to dress as female while some may be more comfortable dressed in boys’ clothing.

North America

The Indigenous people of North America were one of the very few cultures in history to accept someone who cross-dressed. They called them two-spirited, meaning they did not feel comfortable with the traditional male or female gender but had a little spirit of both genders. It was more common for two-spirit men, but there were also two-spirit women.

There were four mutually agreed-upon genders.

• Masculine men
• Feminine men
• Masculine women
• Feminine women

These people were considered a blessing to their tribe and never scorned for their feelings. This tradition and viewpoint did not make it through colonization, unfortunately. Europeans brought many terrible things to the indigenous tribes of North America, and homophobia was one of them.

Conclusion

There are very many famous people throughout the history of crossdressers, many of whom have suffered for their preferences. Thankfully, we are now a lot more open-minded and understanding.

While transvestite and cross-dresser mean the same thing, transvestite is a dated term and has been replaced with a cross-dresser. Neither term identifies as transgender—most nowdays identify as a straight man who likes wearing women’s clothing.

A sissy is a man who dresses more feminine and acts more feminine. They tend to have more submissive personalities. People who use the word sissy for themselves may be of any orientation; usage varies by person and community. They may like to be passive and obedient to their partner. They may even want to live their lives as women, indulging in all hyper feminine and glamourous things.

What does cross-dresser mean?

A cross-dresser is someone who enjoys dressing in clothing that is typically for the opposite gender. It can be women dressing as men, but generally, when people are talking about cross-dressing, they are referring to men who indulge in wearing dresses and women’s lingerie. There are various reasons a person might cross-dress from a love of fashion, sexual arousal, self-expression, or they are just finding it fun and relaxing. A man who cross-dresses doesn’t always identify as a woman but enjoys wearing feminine clothing. A crossdresser may be more fashion focused and keen to attempt to ‘pass‘ by creating a more feminine figure.

Everyone who cross-dresses isn’t a sissy

Unless you are told directly that someone is a cross-dresser or a sissy, it be best not to make any assumptions.

People who practice femdom are more than happy to be called a sissy, and they are men that are obedient and submissive to a mistress or a dominant mistress hence the name femdom. The mistress may even be a wife or girlfriend.

When someone identifies themselves as a sissy, they go from someone who likes to wear women’s clothing to someone who feels their most self in women’s clothing and acting more feminine, as well as being submissive and dominated.

Some cross-dressers may consider themselves sissies while dressing in women’s clothing, but once the lingerie comes off, the fantasy ends. It may just be a fantasy for them to be dominated by a woman while wearing female clothing.

There are so many varied reasons that contribute to men liking being called a sissy or being offended by the term.

When it comes to sissy vs crossdresser, it is an individual choice, and it is never cut and dry. It’s an evolving process, and some men may know right away, from childhood even that they are a sissy, whereas other men know they are not, but they do enjoy cross-dressing. Men may also feel powerful or most themselves when wearing female-designated clothing.

Crossdressing for Sexual Purposes (Consensual Adult Contexts)

Crossdressing can also be used for sexual purposes, whether it’s bedroom roleplay or a personal kink!
 
For some men, it’s thrilling to wear lacy lingerie or to embrace their femininity. It can not only be a turn on to wear the clothing but to also embody something that society has deemed “taboo”.

However, it is definitely not necessary to put on pounds of makeup like Trixie Mattel to show off your crossdressing pride!

Subtle Crossdressing

This more casual form may include wearing women’s underwear, tight jeans, or light body padding to display femininity in a modest manner.
 
Crossdressing in this way with a few feminine items could be used by men as a stepping stone to get started with crossdressing, or it could be someone’s normal preference!
 
Stilettos and bras are awesome any day, but crossdressing is still valid without them!

Mixed Dressing

Gender is not binary and neither is the way men dress!
 
Crossdressing for men doesn’t have to be only presenting as female, it can mix both genders for a unique and personal experience. Some men can also even feel most themselves when embracing both their masculinity and femininity at the same time.
 
This can include having a beard while wearing a dress or wearing a rugged leather jacket with a floral skirt (as long as they match of course)!
